The evidence base must be studied within the local context before being applied to health policies or practices. Soumitra S Datta, Senior Consultant at Tata Medical Center, will cover the recent topics of interest from the infectious diseases field and the Cochrane collaboration in South East Asia.

Soumitra is a consultant psychiatrist working in Tata Medical Center, Kolkata, India, and holds an honorary dual affiliation with the UCL Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology, University College London. He has been a Cochrane reviewer for more than 15 years. The recent review published by Soumitra and colleagues from India and Australia went on become a featured review of the Cochrane collaboration in 2020. The findings of the review have been translated into 8 languages including French, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Malay, Thai and Portuguese. His current research includes systematic reviews, psychological and social aspects of health, decision making and health communications. Prior to his current job he worked as a consultant at the Kings College Hospital, London.
