How to write a scientific abstract
About this webinar
This webinar is targeted at researchers, early-career researchers, PhD students, and Master’s students.
Writing an effective abstract for researchers and postgraduates is an essential skill. The abstract is the second most read part of the manuscript after the title and is the key determinant for readers to read the entire paper. It should contain key words to make your paper discoverable by search engines and indexing services. Webinar participants will be able to apply the skills learned towards writing successful abstracts and publish their scientific papers with high visibility via this webinar presented by Dr. Jacob Wickham, Assistant Professor, Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
You’ll learn:
- The current library discovery and access tools and practices related to electronic resource management and how an abstract is like a mini paper containing a complete IMRAD (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion)
- How to write concisely within 250- or 150-word limits
- How to make your abstract meet editors’ expectations, make your paper discoverable and ensure it will be read by readers
Please note that certificates will be issued to participants who attended the live session.
