The proliferation of library electronic resources in recent years has contributed to libraries’ dwindling loan rates for their physical collections. Particularly low usage of print collections coupled with demand from school administrators and users to transform library spaces to user spaces has spurred libraries to reconceptualize the use of library spaces. Users desire libraries to offer more interactive, flexible, and collaborative spaces and have certain expectations of how their library’s space, technology, and services can best serve their needs. Libraries in turn are injecting lifestyle elements such as bookshops, museums, cafes, makerspaces and exhibitions to entice visitors to their spaces.
Striving to meet these needs, the recent redesign of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine library infuses many new design elements with traditional essentials to transform its space. Ms Caroline Pang, Director – Medical Library & Heritage Centre, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) shares her experiences, challenges and tips in this journey.
Join us at this webinar to gain practical tips on the process of building a library from scratch and managing the design processes of library spaces. Whether you are re-designing a section of your library or planning a major renovation of your library space, this session will provide some valuable food for thought.
