Co-creating the future of publishing: Collaborating and Innovating for Libraries, Publishers and Institutions
The ecosystem of science and scientific publishing is particularly successful when individual stakeholders from publishers, libraries and institutions cooperate closely. This is not just about collaboration in day-to-day work, but also about developing innovative solutions for the future of publishing. In fields like open access and research integrity, many of the innovative business models as well as technology solutions have been developed not by one company, but within a network. The panelists are experienced in competition and co-creation, two important trends in collaboration among initiatives, institutions, and companies.
Speakers:
- Jill Emery, Collection Development & Management Librarian, Professor at Portland State University. Jill has worked as a professional librarian for over thirty years in positions of increasing responsibility. She has served as a board member for the North American Serials Interest Group and ALA-ALCTS Continuing Resources & the Collection Management Sections.
- Jamie Carmichael, Senior Director, Information & Content Solutions at CCC. Jamie brings 20 years' experience in publishing to her current role as Senior Director, Information & Content Solutions at CCC. In this position, she oversees the go-to-market strategy and execution for solutions that support the industry in its shift to open access and open science.
- Charles Watkinson, Associate University Librarian for Publishing / Director, University of Michigan Press. Charles manages the Publishing division of the Library which is composed of three parts - University of Michigan Press (UMP), Michigan Publishing Services (MPS), and Deep Blue repository and research data services (DBRRDS). Charles has a BA/MA from University of Cambridge in Archaeology and Anthropology and an MBA from Oxford Brookes University.
