Prof. Sumanth Kumbargere Nagraj

Prof.Dr.Sumanth Kumbargere Nagraj has completed his BDS and MDS in Oral Medicine and Radiology from Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davangere. He has obtained his FAIMER fellowship in Medical Education from Christian Medical College, Ludhiana and has completed MSc in Evidence-based Healthcare from the prestigious University College London, United Kingdom. Prof.Sumanth has completed his MPhil from University of Plymouth, United Kingdom and is presently pursuing his PhD from the same university.  

He is heading the department of Oral Medicine and Oral Radiology at Faculty of Dentistry, Manipal University College Malaysia and is an honorary Research fellow at the department of Surgery and Interventional Sciences at UCL, London. He is also a clinical editor of Cochrane Oral Health group, University of Manchester and co-convenor of Cochrane Priority Setting Methods group. Prof.Sumanth is also a certified panel member of Guidelines International Network.  

He has work experience of 21 years and has 86 national and international publications to his credit. He has written chapters in five different text books. Prof.Sumanth’s top publications are Cochrane Systematic Reviews on Interventions for Taste disorders, Gagging, Oroantral communication, Post-extraction bleeding, Effectiveness of Home bleaching, School Dental Programmes, adjunct antibiotics for non-surgical management of Periodontitis and interventions to control dental aerosols. The recently published Cochrane review on Interventions to control dental aerosols has been used in the prestigious Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP) guidelines. The Cochrane review on School Dental Programmes has been used to develop the UK NSC recommendation on Dental Disease Consultation Document June 2019 by the Public Health England, UK National Screening Committee.

He is also a Peer Reviewer in more than 20 journals such as BMJ Case Reports, The Saudi Dental Journal, Dental Research Journal of Iran, Clinical Anatomy and Indian Journal of Dental Research.
