Professor Nicholas (Nick) Talley, is a physician scientist and gastroenterologist, with a special interest in functional and inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases, and the gut microbiome. He is currently Distinguished Laureate Professor of Medicine at the University of Newcastle, an NHMRC Leadership Fellow, and Director of the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Digestive Health; he is also a Senior Staff Specialist at the John Hunter Hospital, Editor-in-Chief of the Medical Journal of Australia, a member of the NHMRC Council.
He has been a chief investigator on several successfully completed NHMRC and NIH grants. Nick has an outstanding highly cited academic track record with over 1100publications and is also a leading medical educator and the author of the highly regarded textbooks Clinical Examination and Examination Medicine.
Nick has won several prestigious research awards including 2018 NSW Scientist of the Year, the 2018 Peter Wills Medal from Research Australia, AMA Gold Medal in2021, the 2020 Mayo Clinic Distinguished Alumni Award, and the 2021 UNSW Professional Achievement Alumni Award. He holds adjunct professorial appointments at prominent Universities and institutions, and is invited to deliver lectures and present his research around the world.
