Martin Jones joined the University of South Australia in 2013 as Associate Dean Research for the Centre for Regional Engagement and the University Department of Rural Health. In May 2014, Martin became the Director of the University Department of Rural Health.
Previously Martin has worked in the National Health Service, in the United Kingdom having pursued a career in mental health. He has specialist experiences in leading and developing mental health services for people with Serious Mental Illness. He has actively led Mental Health Nurse prescribing in the UK and developed models of care to enhance the acute inpatient service experience.
Recently he has developed systems to provide assurance about the quality of health care. During the past ten years Martin has developed a research portfolio in the areas of preparing Mental Health Nurses to undertake new roles, helping people with schizophrenia to adhere with medicines, improve the physical health wellbeing of people living with Serious Mental Health problems. His current area of interest and is to develop workforce development programmes to improve the health and wellbeing of Regional Australians.
